    Privacy policy

    Last updated 21 June 2026

This policy explains how Dealdoor (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles personal data when you use our website and services. We are committed to protecting your privacy in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

    Who we are

Dealdoor operates an online marketplace connecting buyers, sellers and brokers of UK businesses. For data protection purposes, Dealdoor is the data controller for personal data processed through the platform unless we tell you otherwise.

Questions about this policy or your data can be sent via our contact page. We aim to respond within one working day.

    Data we collect

We may collect and process the following categories of personal data:

    • Account details: name, email address, password (stored securely), profile information and role preferences (buyer, seller, broker).
    • Listing and deal information: business descriptions, financial summaries, photos, location data and enquiry messages you submit.
    • Usage data: pages visited, searches, saved listings, device type, browser and approximate location derived from IP address.
    • Payment data: subscription and checkout details processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
    • Communications: messages sent through the platform, support requests and marketing preferences.

    How we use your data

We use personal data to operate the marketplace, including creating accounts, publishing listings, routing enquiries between buyers and sellers, processing subscriptions and preventing fraud.

Where required by law, we rely on contractual necessity (to provide the service you signed up for), legitimate interests (to improve security and platform performance) or consent (for optional marketing emails). You can withdraw consent at any time.

    When we share data

When you enquire about a listing, we share your name, message and relevant profile details with the seller or their broker so they can respond. Sellers see enquiry content; other buyers cannot see your saved searches or ventures.

If you request a free valuation or ask to be matched with a broker, we may introduce you to one. That introduction includes your name, email address, phone number where given, your sector and the indicative figures you entered, and brokers pay us a fee for it. A broker who receives your details may contact you about selling your business. We only introduce brokers who have been approved to list on Dealdoor.

We use trusted processors to host the platform, send transactional email, process payments and provide analytics. These providers only process data on our instructions and under appropriate contracts.

We do not sell your personal data to advertisers or list brokers, and we do not share it for unrelated third-party marketing.

    How long we keep data

We retain account and listing data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards so you can reactivate or resolve disputes.

Enquiry and transaction records may be kept longer where required for legal, tax or fraud-prevention purposes. Marketing suppression lists are retained so we honour unsubscribe requests.

    Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights including:

    • Access to a copy of your personal data.
    • Correction of inaccurate data.
    • Erasure in certain circumstances (subject to active listings or legal holds).
    • Restriction or objection to certain processing.
    • Data portability where processing is automated and based on consent or contract.
    • Complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you believe we have handled your data unlawfully.

    Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls and industry-standard hosting. No online service can guarantee absolute security; please use a strong password and keep your login details confidential.

    International transfers

Some processors may store or process data outside the UK. Where this happens, we ensure appropriate safeguards such as UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses are in place.

    Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
